As the world’s oldest clan society we receive no government funding and your support, by becoming a life member of the society, enables us to help our less fortunate brethren with scholarships, bursaries and pensions.

Membership of the Buchanan Society is open to those with the surname Buchanan and also those of the recognised septs:

McAuslan, McWattie and Risk.

The Society has recently lodged a series of Victorian portrait photographs with the Strathclyde Regional Archives within the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, Scotland. Some of these portraits may be unique and include the following:

Letter dated 21 June 1888 from Roberdeau Buchanan gifting photographs to the Buchanan Society.

Photograph album dated 1890 containing 37 portraits and other photographs relating primarily to families related to the former President, James Buchanan, including Roberdeau Buchanan, Coe Buchanan (descended from early settler in Little Britain) and Dr Andrew Buchanan of New Zealand, with contemporary key of contents.
